As we move into the last weekend of Hanukkah, when lots of families are planning parties and gatherings, let’s share: what are the best Hanukkah menorahs, recipes, and adventures that you discovered this season?
For us, a F.I.N.D is a Fabulous. Intriguing. New-to-me. Discovery.
Gecko Menorah
We discovered this adorable gecko menorah at FairTradeJudaica.com that simply tickled our grandsons! (In 2016, we will do a full post about this wonderful organization.)
What amazed me was that our 3-year-old knew it was a gecko when he pulled it out of the box!
One note: we learned right away that the regular-size Hanukkah candles were a bit too small for the holders. Fortunately, we had a batch of creamy beeswax candles that fit perfectly.
Video about Making Potato Latkes
We watched this Martha Stewart video about making potato latkes and discovered these helpful hints:
- Get bigger, Russet potatoes. (I’m not sure I knew to get Russet potatoes.)
- Squeeze extra liquid out of grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel. (I’ve used a sieve in the past to squeeze out the extra liquid.)
- Scoop the latke mixture into a frying pan using an ice cream scooper. (Never thought of this.)
New Maccabeats Song!
Wow – I love it! You’ve gotta watch this music video called “Latke Recipe” by one of my all-time-fave groups, The Maccabeats. It is sung to the tune of “Shut Up and Dance.” I challenge you to hear this and *not* tap your feet.
Thanks to RewireMe.com
Thank you to Jordan Rosenfeld who asked us for a quote for her article “How to Celebrate Interfaith Holidays,” published December 5, 2022 in RewireMe.com.
I especially appreciate the emphasis on staying open-minded, showing respect, and letting love lead.
